Akamai Technologies [AKAM:US] and Kingsoft Cloud [3888:HK] signed an agreement to catalyze the globalization of Chinese internet enterprises, as reported by jiemian.com on November 8. Akamai is an intelligent edge platform that secures and delivers digital experiences and Kingsoft Cloud is one of China’s biggest cloud service providers.
On a macro-level, this agreement will have a positive affect on businesses and consumers. On the corporate side, it will enhance Chinese businesses’ internet experience by allowing for faster content and improved traffic access to markets globally. Chinese firms will be able to compete with regional or national companies on a global scale for the first time. On the consumer side, in essence, this deal affects three aspects of the internet user experience: increased speed, better quality, and higher security. While on a micro-level, Akamai and Kingsoft will both have greater access to digital supply channels by utilizing each other’s technological expertise and experience. Currently, both companies also have extensive research and development projects in progress. The two companies collaborating will establish new technologies and improve their go-to-market timeline than if they continued R&D separately.
