Chinese Football Association Super League (CSL) has reached a collaborative deal with the Premier League (PL) on league construction and promotion, according to Xinhuanet on November 7. CSL intends to learn from the Premier League's advanced teenager training system. As a part of the deal, the PL will be promoted and advertised in China, enhancing its economic competitiveness among the five major European football leagues.
The Premier League provides entertainment to over 350m fans worldwide. Its clubs' revenue reached GBP2.4bn in the 2017/2018 season via tickets, advertisements, and goodies sales. Because of its broad exposure to the public, some of China’s companies signed sponsorship agreements with the clubs, such as the lottery platforms Fun88asia.com and LaBa360.com. In 2016, Suning.com [002024:CH] acquired 70% of Inter Milan’s stake for USD306m, becoming its largest shareholder. As a local league, CSL’s commercial value is expected to increase substantially if the league's competitive level rises. In recent years, CSL signed football stars such as Carrasco, Hulk, and Oscar to increase the league's influence and visibility.
